What is Screenprinting?

  • First we create the art in Adobe Illustrator and or Photoshop. We also hand illustrate images and scan them in. Most of what we do is called vector art. However we do use some Bittmapped images on some jobs.
  • Second we color separate the art. Each color will have it’s own screen. The screens are coated with light sensitive emulsion in a dark room, just like working with film under a red lamp. We can screen up to six colors on our press.
  • Third we shoot screens (Expose them) on an exposure unit. This is basically a fancy light table with Halogen lights in it.  After they are exposed to light we rinse them with water and presto you have a stencil.
  • Fourth we set the press up. The more screens the longer this takes. We line up all the screens on the press so the design prints accurately.
  • Fifth we print the shirts and they are cured (baked) at 320+ degrees.
  • Sixth Hours of clean up.
